Step by step

1. Fill in our contact form below or call us on the numbers provided.

2. Together we'll book the right organiser to help you.

3. We look forward to meeting you and helping you to declutter and organise your home.

After an initial phone discussion, we will visit you and discuss in detail your lifestyle and your decluttering goals. We will take photos (with your permission) of each area that you are seeking to declutter and provide you with a report about what will be needed to declutter your area.

The consultation and report are a fixed-price service. We will work with you at every stage of the process and provide options that meet your needs. We can also assist with creating systems for you to manage your time and space.

We can discuss organising products and services if required such as cleaning services or waste removal - note these will be charged separately.

The decision to engage a professional organizer is yours, only you know if you want help and are prepared to engage with support services.

Clients may be feeling overwhelmed, struggling to know where to start with decluttering, or enabling other support services to provide them with the in-home services they need in a decluttered and clean environment.

A professional organizer can assist you with as much or as little support and guidance as you would like.

Whilst there may be a component of cleaning within a decluttering service, it is not the essential part of what our team of organisers assists with.

Decluttering deals with your possessions, deciding what is important, and necessary, and creating the space that you want.

Organising aims to to assist you to sort, group and find items as they are needed. Decluttering aims to reduce unnecessary items.

We offer a fixed-price service. We don’t charge per project because there are so many variables such as the volume of items you have and the outcomes you seek to achieve. We will be transparent about costs and work with you regarding your budget.

High-traffic areas of your home are a great place to start such as hallways and the kitchen however; you may have an area that you have been seeking to declutter for some time and would prefer to start there.

We can work with you to discuss prioritising your sentimental items. For example, do you need to keep all of your sentimental items in the home?

Before any sentimental items are discarded we will chat with you and seek your permission before they are disposed of.

Absolutely! At Declutter we appreciate and respect that hoarding is a recognised mental health condition. There is no shame or judgment in seeking the services of a professional organiser, clients should be proud to have reached out for assistance.

We will work with you in a professional, caring and compassionate manner. If you have any concerns or queries please don’t hesitate to discuss these with us.

Decluttering may be challenging for various reasons.

Hoarding disorder is when someone persistently has difficulty letting go of or throwing things out regardless of their value. They have a perceived need to save the items and there is distress associated with discarding them. This leads to an accumulation of possessions and rubbish that clutter the person’s living areas.

Many people collect things as a hobby or for sentimental reasons — from stamps to their kids' teeth, but for people with hoarding disorder, they accumulate possessions because it is distressing for them to discard them.

People who collect things are more likely to display or store them in a specific place, rather than have them take over large areas of the home. Collectors are also more likely to use or enjoy their collection, whereas someone with a hoarding disorder may argue that they are keeping something because it will have a use in the future — and often it doesn’t.

Someone with a hoarding disorder will also store the items in a disorganised or cluttered way, with no specific space to store them.

Hoarding disorder may progressively get worse. A person living with hoarding disorder may have a lack of insight into their condition, seemingly not able to recognise that they have a problem, or that they cannot use their surroundings due to the clutter.

CAN YOU HELP ME SELL AND DONATE MY UNWANTED ITEMS?

Minimising waste and landfill is an important part of our ethos, via various channels we may be able to sell some of your items. We would also love to coach and empower you to do your own selling if you want.

For donations we take everything away for you. We align with specific charities including domestic & family violence organisations, homeless organisations,  animal welfare, food banks, refugee programs and community groups. For many items we use local op shops as well. And sometimes we list things free online to find a targeted recipient and prevent a decent item from going to landfill.

Yes we do. Decluttering partners with other-like minded organisations with an ethos to being environmentally sustainable. Aiming to minimise waste and landfill as much as possible. We are proud to work with various charities to ensure very few items are wasted. For example old towels can be repurposed to animal shelters.

we have expertise in estate clearing. we can sort through assets/chattels and have them sold and distributed in accordance with the family’s wishes.

we would strongly suggest you are present when we are dealing with your items because everyone lives a bit differently. we want to ensure you get tailored service and that nothing important is discarded or left out of the process.

In ongoing declutter sessions once we know your vision, your continued presence may not be as crucial. if you would prefer not to be present during the process, please discuss this with us and we may be able to accommodate this through our processes.

Absolutely not! we are there to provide support, guidance and assistance however; it is your choice and control as to what items you may want to dispose of. we respect that we are working in your home and that different items have different meanings to individual clients.

Absolutely not! we work with you to gain an understanding of what you have and its priority in your life. it is your choice and control as to what items you may wish to dispose of. You are in control and make all the decisions. you can keep anything – but probably not everything.

In most instances one of our team will be sufficient. depending on your individual needs it may be appropriate to seek additional staff to assist in the process however; we will discuss this with you before proceeding.

Whilst there is a component of support to clients experiencing hoarding in the course of the decluttering process, a professional organisers scope of practice does not extend to counselling or psychological services. professional organisers act with honesty, integrity and empathy however; where there are concerns for your welfare, it may be appropriate to suggest referral to other support services to assist you. we can assist you to find these services however; the decision to engage and with whom is yours.

Our role is not to provide hands-on cleaning or rubbish removal however we can happily assist with arranging these services. during a typical declutter session we wipe as we go, and we separate your categories of waste from your donations and precious items, so that they can all be dealt with appropriately.
